BrainStimulator is a set of networks that are used in SCIRun to perform simulations of brain stimulation such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) and magnetic transcranial stimulation (TMS).
Its modular implementation builds upon the new release of SCIRun 5.0 and following release versions. No additional software is needed to set up, compute, visualize and analyze simulations and their results. The BrainStimulator-specific modules can be visually and functionally combined to form networks including other more generic SCIRun5 modules.
A variety of networks performing a typical workflow of tDCS and TMS simulations are provided with the package. The package also includes a toy model (Mickey Mouse) designed to learn more about BrainStimulator capabilities as well as a realistic head model (Colin27) available in different degrees of detail. The Colin27 head model contains state of the art modeling features and comes with a variety of different anatomical atlases (FreeSurfer, Talairach and other brain parcellations).
TMS and tDCS simulations performed with BrainStimulator can be analyzed statistically within the package. Individual head models can be easily integrated into SCIRun5 while its entire functionally is at the User's disposal including common input and output formats (NRRD, Matlab, ASCII, etc).
