Job Summary The Musculoskeletal Research Laboratories (MRL) is part of both the Bioengineering Department and the Scientific Computing and Imaging institute at the University of Utah. One of our research efforts is the development of a computational framework for the simulation of biomechanical problems. FEBio (Finite Elements for Biomechanics) is a suite of software that uses the Finite Element Method to solve solid biomechanics problems. The suite consists of three programs written in C++: a preprocessor for setting up the FE analysis in a graphical environment, a solver, and a postprocessor for visualization and analysis of the results.

Responsibilities The MRL is looking for a motivated individual who will assist in the development, support, and maintenance of the FEBio software. This includes taking on development tasks, keeping documentation up to date, maintaining the test problem database, and testing the software on different platforms.

Minimum Qualifications Requires an associate degree in a related area or equivalency and 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferences Qualifications:
The MRL is looking for a committed individual who is available on a part-time or full-time basis and has completed at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science (or related field). Excellent knowledge of C++ is required. Good knowledge of Windows XP, Linux, and Mac OS X is also necessary. Knowledge of Python and experience with version control systems (e.g. svn) is preferred. Good communication skills are required as well. Due to the technical nature of many of the software development tasks, a good mathematical background is advantageous.
