The Department of Bioengineering and the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah invite applications for a post-doctoral researcher for interdisciplinary work in neuromodulation therapy including deep brain stimulation (DBS). The successful candidate will perform research and work closely with SCI Institute researchers and external collaborators to integrate clinical and computational data. This position is part of a newly funded NIH grant aimed at improving patient outcomes of DBS.

The SCI Institute is seeking a highly talented and committed individual with a demonstrated ability to work well with minimal supervision in a multi-disciplinary research environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the Institute's world-class research in computational modeling and have the opportunity to develop their research, publication, and presentation skills under mentorship from established faculty investigators.

Responsibilities: This positions has two main responsibilities:
  1. Develop novel computational methods to integrate imaging (MR, CT and DTI), finite element models and multicompartmental neuron models to build predictive patient-specific models of neuromodulation therapies including DBS.
  2. Work closely with our collaborators to integrate clinical data with the computational models, analyze and report the results.

Non-Technical Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory. A willingness to collaborate in a highly diverse, multi-disciplinary environment is also essential.

Start date and term: Immediate. The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, with the possibility of an extension based upon performance and availability of funding.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Expert knowledge in scientific computing, particularly in finite element modeling and clinical imaging.
  • Strong mathematical skills/knowledge.
  • Experience with large integration projects is a plus
