Getting started
- Sign up for a
CS UNIX account if you don't have one already.
- Go to the
ENS Intel lab Room 1, ENS basement or some other CS linux lab.
- Log on
- Some of the screens have both a Windows and a Linux box hooked up to them. If you see a Windows log in screen, then look for a KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switch and press it to switch to Linux. The switch looks like a small box with a button.
- > startx (This is necessary only if you logged on at the command line.)
- "Applications" button > "System Tools" > "Konsole"
- > mkdir projects
- > cd projects
- > pwd
- > wget http://userweb.cs.utexas.edu/~edwardsj/teaching/2011spring/cs105/assignment1.zip
- > unzip assignment1.zip
- > cd assignment1
- > kate instructions1.txt &
- Change default tab behavior in Kate:
- Settings > Configure Kate > Indentation
- Indentation mode: "C Style"
- Check "Use spaces instead of tabs to indent"
