Job Summary
Reporting to the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (SCI) Director, the Director of IT is a senior member of the Office of the Director and the senior administrative leadership team.
 
The Director of IT is responsible for the architectural design, development and deployment of SCI’s systems.
 
·         Defines systems based on faculty and student research needs, cost and integration with existing applications, systems and platforms.
 
·         Responsible for researching, identifying, selecting and testing innovative technologies required to meet user demands. Explores novel technologies and solutions to help faculty advance SCI’s research program.
 
·         Establishes, implements and documents technology strategy, migration and integration plans.
 
·         Researches and understands industry trends in computing, storage, security and production and research networking in order to advance innovation and competitive advantage in faculty driven research.
 
·         Expected to provide overall technical leadership and direction for SCI and to serve on technology steering committees for the University. Expert at system administration, software development and extraordinary user support.
 
·         Partners with research faculty and staff on complex science and engineering proposal development requiring innovative research systems. 
 
·         The position requires outstanding business acumen and an ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, staff and faculty who have a wide range of technical understanding.
 
·         Provides a leadership and management role for SCI IT staff including desktop support, and system administration (compute, storage, security, and application services). 
 
·         This position may be assigned leadership of working groups or other innovative, exploratory, or collaborative technology projects.
 
Goals for this position are determined and communicated by the SCI Director with input from faculty and staff.
 
The position requires 15+ years of experience in technology management in an academic or national laboratory research environment.
