3D symmetric tensor fields appear in many scientific and engineering domains. Topology-driven analysis and visualization has the potential of providing a holistic view of the structures in the tensor fields. In this talk, I will review recent development in 3D tensor field topology, including a model called the eigenvalue manifold, a number of feature surfaces based on this model, and the robust extraction of tensor field topology. In addition, I will discuss a number of open research questions in tensor field topology.
