Koushikur Islam is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Utah, USA, where he is advised by Professor Manish Parashar. Previously, he worked as a Sessional Lecturer and Research Assistant at the Smart and Distributed Computing (SDC) Lab at Western Sydney University, Australia, under the supervision of Professor Bahman Javadi and Associate Professor Rodrigo N. Calheiros. He received his Master of Information and Communications Technology from Western Sydney University with High Distinction and the Dean’s Award. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from the American International University–Bangladesh, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and received the prestigious Gold Medal distinction.
His research focuses on intelligent and autonomous resource management across the edge–cloud continuum, leveraging AI/ML techniques to develop self-adaptive and intelligent solutions for distributed systems. His research vision is to enable fully autonomous, self-healing distributed systems that can continuously adapt to real-time variability across the computing continuum and intelligently allocate resources to meet the time-bounded requirements of consequential applications.
Currently, he develops intent-driven autonomic computing mechanisms for the computing continuum that translate natural-language application intents into verifiable placement, scheduling, and runtime adaptation decisions across heterogeneous distributed infrastructure near data sources to support time-bounded decision-making.
