Large- Scale Systems
Research in Large-scale Systems and Software: SCI research in Large-scale Systems and Software focuses on the conceptualization, design, and engineering of software systems to enable important and challenging computational and data-enabled applications in science, engineering, medicine, and humanities. This research targets modern multi/many-core extreme scale parallel, and distributed systems, and uses translational, transdisciplinary and co-design approaches to maximize performance and scalability, reduce energy consumption, and/or optimize usability. Example research focus areas include scalable methods and algorithms, programming system integrating abstractions and runtime mechanisms, large-scale data management and processing, and federated computational cyberinfrastructure. As with all research at SCI, translation through the development and deployment of innovative and robust software packages is integral to this research.
