Dr. Amy Ashurst Gooch is Chief Operations Officer of ViSUS LLC (DBA ViSOAR LLC) and an adjunct professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University. Her research and professional work span computer graphics, image processing, data visualization, and human perception, with an emphasis on developing visualizations that communicate complex three-dimensional information.
Dr. Gooch earned her BS in Computer Engineering and MS in Computer Science from the University of Utah, where her master’s work explored interactive non-photorealistic technical illustration. She earned her PhD in Computer Science from Northwestern University in 2006, following research and teaching appointments there. Her early work was presented at SIGGRAPH, and she co-authored the foundational book Non-Photorealistic Rendering, published by A K Peters in 2001.
After five years as a research scientist at the University of Utah and later serving on the faculty at the University of Victoria, Dr. Gooch moved into research commercialization and technology leadership at ViSUS. Her work integrates computer graphics, perceptual psychology, and computational vision to improve rendering methods, scientific visualization, and the interpretation of visual data.
