My work as a One-U Responsible AI Postdoctoral Fellow focuses on post-disaster recovery, a critical yet often overlooked part of community resilience. While much AI research emphasizes immediate response, I aim to build models that bring together diverse data sources—such as social media, geolocated imagery, mobility data, field observations, and official disaster reports—to understand how communities move through the extended phases of recovery. I use these methods to track progress, highlight key recovery benchmarks, and examine disparities in aid distribution across different populations.
A central goal is to make these tools transparent and useful for researchers, practitioners, and local communities. By combining multiple perspectives on recovery, this work supports more equitable planning and contributes to One-U RAI’s mission to apply responsible AI to pressing human-environment challenges.
