Current Responsibilities

Dr. Pettine is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Utah’s Huntsman Mental Health Institute. He holds affiliations with the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute, the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Program, and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Pettine leads a cross-disciplinary research group that applies advanced computational methods in neuropsychiatry. He is actively involved in fostering industry-academia collaborations to accelerate innovation in medical AI and translational research.

Research Interests

Dr. Pettine’s research program lies at the intersection of neuroscience, artificial intelligence, and healthcare, with a focus on developing advanced computational methods to investigate, detect, and treat neuropsychiatric disorders. His work encompasses:

1. Applying computational neuroscience and AI methods to understand how attention, learning, and memory are impacted in conditions such as autism, ADHD, and neurodegenerative diseases like dementia.
2. Developing innovative AI solutions for health monitoring and precision medicine, with a particular focus on analyzing physiological data from wearable devices.
3. Creating scalable, real-time AI models for clinical applications, especially in the areas of cardiovascular health and aging.
4. Exploring the use of genomic foundation models and other advanced AI architectures to detect generalizable health patterns in physiological and neurological data.
5. Advancing ethical AI practices in healthcare, including the development of data governance frameworks that ensure patient privacy and equitable access to AI technologies.
