Resolution Study: Input Revision 3
About
The primary reason behind this revision of the input files was to align resolutions with Todd for better comparison on data. The other parameters of the case remain:
- - Two sets of setup: a steel casing senario, pure PBX disk
- - 5 resolutions: 0.25 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.67 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.25 mm
- - 2 dimensional simulation
- - A disk 6 cm diameter disk in a 12.8 cm2 domain
- - Symmetry on the +/-z
- - Dirichlet boundary conditions on +/-x and +/-y

- Momentum Test
- With these runs, the momentum exchange coefficient between gas, steel, and PBX was 1e15
- Runs lacking a steel case have fairly erratic behavior
- Large momentum exchange coefficient causes particles to fly off rather quickly, pulled by the high pressure gas. These isolated particles cause (presumably) an overestimate of the surface area, and thus a higher burn rate (also more erratic).
- Solution: I'm currently running cases without steel containers with momentum exchange 1e5 (because Chuck has statistics to compare with)

- -Surface Area Calculation
- -Todd is skeptical about the accuracy of the surface area calculations, and their convergence(or lackthereof)
- -Proposed solution: Run several different resolutions with 8-16 small cylinders (2D)
