Background

Marcel Prastawa is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Utah. He received his B.S degree in Computer Science and Mathematics from Purdue University in 2001, and his Ph.D degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2007.

Research Interests

His main research interest is on the analysis of Magnetic Resonance (MR) images (structural and diffusion tensor imaging) by extracting complete, descriptive models of biological processes from multimodal images that may change over time. This involves developing new methods for segmenting 3D MRI , registering 3D images and geometric objects (points, curves, surfaces), as well as modeling and analysis. He is also interested in investigating the application of these complex statistical and physical models of changes for prediction, treatment, and computer-aided clinical training.

His general research interests are:

  • Image processing and analysis
  • Machine learning (pattern recognition)
  • Physical and statistical modeling
  • Computer vision
