Sam Quinan - Graduate Student Research Assistant
WEB Lab 3720
BackgroundI graduated from the University of Chicago in June of 2012, with a BA in Computer Science and a minor in Visual Arts. Home is northern Virginia, but I spent my formative years in Boston so if you make a derogatory remark about the Red Sox… Well, you can't say you weren't warned. In what little spare time I have, I dabble in a variety of subjects at the intersection of art and technology including but not limited to UX design, web design, mobile application development, 2D and 3D computer-based art, and music composition.
Current ResponsibilitiesI am working with Miriah Meyer on visualizing uncertainty data in a variety of contexts.
Research InterestsMy research interests span both the fields of computer graphics and visualization, but are driven by contextual considerations. What is the eventual application? Who are the users; the audience? Are they one and the same? I am interested in interdisciplinary projects, projects that have generalized applications, projects that make use of the latest research from other areas (perceptual psychology, HCI, etc.), projects that not only push boundaries within the scope of their own field but open the door to innovation in other fields of study as well. Whether the eventual applications are in art, medicine, or even education, helping trigger the creation of something larger than myself is the underlying goal.
