Background
Dr. Basu Roy is an Assistant Professor in the Kahlert School of Computing and a faculty member of the Scientific Computing and Imaging (SCI) Institute at the University of Utah. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University, Boston, in 2025.
His research focuses on systems-level challenges in large-scale and distributed computing environments. In recognition of his work, he has received the ACM/IEEE-CS George Michael Memorial HPC Fellowship, the MLCommons Machine Learning and Systems Rising Star recognition, and nominations for best paper awards at several highly selective conferences, among other honors.
Current Responsibilities
Dr. Basu Roy conducts research on scheduling and optimization in various forms of parallel and distributed computing systems, including cloud computing, serverless platforms, and high performance computing (HPC)/supercomputing systems. The goal of his research is to enhance the productivity, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of these large-scale systems. The tools and solutions developed from his work are largely open-sourced and are regularly reproduced and used by the systems research community.Research Interests
